DJ Fei Fei Interview Hammarica PR Electronic Dance Music News

This past year has seen Fei-Fei releasing stadium sized industrial dubstep tracks while earning props from Benga to Bassnectar and adding to an already rabid fan following along the way. Mixmag UK recently featured Fei-Fei as an artist to “keep an eye on”, dubbing her signature aggressive sound as “high octane dubstep” which subsequently set the stage for the bass vixen as she rocked London’s super club Proud2 as well as the Relentless NASS Festival on the legendary UKF Stage. Her new release, Torture, is a massive collaboration with Footsie, one half of the UK grime masters Newham Generals out now and currently destroying the top 10 on Beatport. Please welcome DJ Fei-Fei for Hammarica.com’s series of daily DJ interviews.

DJ Fei FeiYou made an awesome and legendary move to play dubstep on Armin’s A State Of Trance event. Can it get more epic than that?

Just doin my thang 🙂  Yes, ASOT was deffo an awesome experience!  Mega props to Armin and his team for embracing diversity.

If you look at your list of productions you have done so far. Which of those stands out the most to you and why?

The one you haven’t heard yet…As an artist you are constantly evolving.  The day you stop growing is the day you stop being an artist.  But don’t worry, loads of new tunes coming soon.

DJ Fei Fei & Footsie - TortureYour new release Torture is rocking the Beatport dubstep top 10. It’s a collab with Footsie. How did you guys get together?

Thanks! Big ups to all my Feided Junkies out there who’ve been supporting Torture like mad!  Funny story, me and Footsie got together in a super organic way that’s pretty unheard of these days.  I saw his “One Spliff” video and immediately reached out to him and asked him to collab.  I sent him some beats I was working on and he pounced on it.  So far we have two tracks…the 2nd one is a mad mad ting with Newham Generals, both Footsie and D Double E.

Formerly you were known as a trance DJ. Only few artists are brave enough to make a 360 degree career move. When did you decide to do it and how do you enjoy it so far?

I always follow inspiration. And going back to always growing and evolving as an artist, the more diverse you can be I think the better.  These days people are so much more open minded and music is just one hot mess.  Everything is being influenced by everything, it’s really exciting to see and be a part of.  When did it happen?  I can’t pinpoint a day, it’s constantly moving and changing and I’ve always championed a really diverse style.

Is God a DJ?

What if I said i don’t believe in God 😉

What is the best series on Youtube in your opinion?

I don’t really have a favorite series, but I love the animal ones. Like that panda mom that gets all scared when her cub sneezes.

Do you have tattoos?

Not yet! Soon perhaps?

What are your thoughts on the Spotify platform?

Dig it.

Choose between WMC or ADE.

Can’t choose.  Love them both for different reasons.

What do you consider to be your biggest break that launched your DJ career?

There isn’t one thing.  Such a misconception.  It takes years and years of hustling and working super hard for everything to finally pay off.  People may look at an artist and pin point a “big break” but that’s usually not the case.  It’s never one thing or an overnight success.  So hustle hard, takes undying passion and hard work to get there but it will pay off!

DJ InterviewsDescribe a real-life situation that inspired you?

My parents inspire me everyday.  They are the most passionate, dedicated and hardest working people I know.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

Not really.  I’m a tough cookie to crack.  Although if you sing happy bday to me with a gang of people and do the whole cake and candle thing I might get a lil bit red.

Is there a final thing you would like to say to our readers?

Kisses to all my Feided junkies!

Thanks again Fei Fei for taking the time for this interview!
